I'm Candice. I am passionate about helping children develop a lasting love for literature.

My path towards becoming a literacy specialist began with one student who, despite my best efforts, still struggled with basic reading skills. Ignited by a strong motivation to help all of my students, I discovered the Science of Reading, a large body of research from psychology, linguistics, education, and neuroscience that explains how people learn to read and why some struggle. I learned that unlike spoken language, reading is not a skill we are born to do naturally  and because of this, some children need more targeted support to master it. Approaches like Orton Gillingham align closely with what science tells us about how our brains learn to read, providing explicit instruction and repetition to build lasting literacy skills.

With over 12 years of experience in Montessori and Reggio Emilia-inspired preschools, I bring a calm, grounded presence and a playful energy to create a nurturing environment where children feel supported and ready to learn.
